As a director, my responsibility is to reveal the central beauty of the script. An audience member walks away having fully experienced the playwright’s story.
While I am comfortable working in any genre, my particular expertise is in adapting and refreshing the classics, making them relevant for 21 st century audiences.
UTEP School of Music, Spring 2019
Stage Director of Suor Angelica, Puccini (Opera)
Having seen a number of my successful large cast productions at UTEP, the music department asked me to direct their Spring opera. The final production was a specific and moving production of this Puccini classic.
First time directing opera, rich and successful collaboration with music director and conductor.
UTEP Studio Theatre, Fall 2017
Bloody Shakespeare is a boldly innovative, 45-minute Shakespeare-themed Haunted House. The audience travels through multiple play spaces to explore the darkest corners of Shakespeare’s mind. The show sold out for its entire run and served as a dynamic way to introduce young students to classical language
UTEP Wise Family Theater, Spring 2017
Using Alistair Elliot’s dynamic adaptation, our production was dynamic and muscular while still being faithful to Euripides work. With live production throughout, stylized choral movement, and a bloody final kill sequence, Medea was a hair raising 80 minutes that dissolved preconceived notions about Greek theatre.
Wise Family Mainstage, UTEP, Fall 2018
A Christmas Carol en la Frontera
To serve the largely Latinx student body at UTEP, myself and my team are created a new version of Dicken’s timeless classic. This new version is bilingual and focuses on the rich heritage and culture of the Border region. This innovative production also incorporated an important dance element.
Monomoy Theater, Summer 2017
The Good Doctor
The Good Doctor is Neil Simon's hilarious musical homage to Chekhov and the theater itself. Rehearsed in just two weeks, the Cape Cod Times named our production a "Favorite of 2017".
UTEP Dinner Theater, Summer 2017
This big-cast, Broadway-style pop musical is broadly entertaining, but still has real heart and valuable modern themes. Sister Act was both an artistic and box office triumph - selling out and even extending its run
I certified as an actor-combatant at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in 1998. As a professional actor, stage combat was a skill I utilized frequently. In 2015, when UTEP hired me, I identified stage combat as an unmet need in the faculty skill-set. Since then, I have worked hard to sharpen my abilities to teach and direct stage violence by taking master classes and attending SAFD intensives across the country.
